Oskar Metsavaht and Addison O'Dea Celebrate Interview Magazines 'L.A. Art World.....Osklen Store, SoHo

Jan. 24, 2011

Brazilian sportswear line, Osklen, threw a casual cocktail party last Thursday, Jan. 19th at its store on Wooster Street to celebrate Interview Magazine's "L.A. Art World", featured in its December/January issue.  The story boasts that "some of the most provocative, potent art being created in the United States today isn’t coming out of New York City but clear across the continent in Los Angeles" so I'm sure there was some connection (unbeknownst to me) as to why the party was hosted by the Brazil-based brand here in NYC.  In any event, thank you to my good friend, stylist Robyn Fernandes for inviting me. Here, a few fashionable guests.

Design Boards...

Self Evaluation

Looking back on this project I feel that my strengths lay in my print designs and my weaknesses lay in my development work and technique as I didn’t experiment with technique as much as I would have liked. As for time management I would say that I managed my time ok but could have managed it better. I made a timetable which I made on a weekly basis and planned my time week by week. I allocated my time to different areas of the project I had to concentrate on although I did feel that I got a bit lost with time and spent far too long on some areas of the project such as developing my ideas at the beginning. Once I got past the initial ideas development stage of the project I felt very motivated about the project. I think that I felt as motivated as I did because I found what I was doing interesting and I was learning new things.  As for responding to advice I would say that I responded to it positively. New things were suggested which I responded to and I took new ideas onboard.  This didn’t always work but I did try. As for criticism I’d say I took it positively. If I hadn’t my work would have suffered. I would say that one of the stronger points of the project was my print designs. I spent a lot of time concentrating on this area of the project, however I would have liked to develop them further, but this is something I can really push myself with on the next project. I would say my research could have been stronger, and could have really benefitted my work if it had been. As for my weaknesses, I would say it was my development work. I could have done a lot more to develop the project and I could have taken a more experimental approach. As for resolving the final designs I found it challenging but very enjoyable at the same time. On future projects I would like to try and manage my time better, I did make a time-table but I feel I need to come up with other ways to help manage my time. I have decided to present my work in the form of design boards, with digital media and design files to show my journey of this project. I feel that presenting my work like this will have a stronger outcome than if I present my work any other way and it is more professional. I did want to digitally print my designs onto fabric, however I found that I didn’t have time when I got to that stage in the project. However I will bear this in mind for next time.

Alongside this project I entered a competition with Designers Republic, and worked it into this project, which I found very helpful.

Overall I am very pleased with my final collection of print designs. Although I could have managed my time better and been more experimental I feel this project had a positive outcome.

Illustration Styles...

I have been looking at different illustration styles and came across the work of Kelly Smith and Myltan.I find them so inspiring and beautiful and so full of life! My own illustrations often look quite flat and lifeless so I am deffinatly going to try out this style so have invested in a lightbox!

Inspiration...

I am really inspired by this illustration by Coco! Beautiful design!

Daria Werbowy by Mario Testino

 Vogue UK 2005

I love this shoot and I especially love the use of shape and the intricate detailing. The colours are also very beautiful and vivid! For my next project I would be interested in experimenting with shape and doing something a little 3D. Hope you enjoy, check out the rest of the shoot here.

Love this editorial for Industrie. I find it just breathtaking! It is a great source of styling inspiration for my current university project as well! The colours are lovely, very subtle and fresh! What do you think?

I would really appreciate it if all my lovely female readers could complete a very short survey for me about women, identity and body image. It only takes about two minutes to complete and will help me greatly with an essay I am currently working on! You can complete the survey here.

Thanks!

Carlene K's SHINE Body Bronzer.

SHINE Body Bronzer gives you a sexy, glowing, summer tan that is perfect for your everyday, and even better for a night out on the town.

Without the streaky mess or permanence of "fake tanner", Carlene K's SHINE Body Bronzer is extremely moisturizing, long-lasting, easy to apply and easy to remove and it washes off in the shower.
SHINE Body Bronzer was created by Celebrity Makeup Artist Carlene K, while working with the Pussycat Dolls.
I have used this product on my arms and legs and think it's fantastic!
Years ago Estee Lauder had a similar product which they discontinued so I am so happy Carlene has brought this one out.

Questions for Sam and I.....

So it's a New year 2011, how exciting, it means only a year and 2 months till I get married, so time to diet (see previous post)
Sam and I have been asked so many questions over the past year, so we have decided to do a video answering some of them.
If you have any questions for us, please write it below and we will try to answer in a video.

Cheers,
Nic

The Diet

It probably seems like I am a bit of a yo-yo dieter. The truth is, when I diet I rarely lose much weight if any because I get quickly bored and with two children I overcook and easily fall into the trap of finishing their dinner... Ok, I admit it, I also drink too much wine.

Over the years WeightWatchers and I have had a great relationship but more recently it has become strained.
Sticking to a points diet and attending meetings at specific times is nigh on impossible when I am shooting on location in London. Most shoot lunches consist of Pizza, Sandwiches or something equally as calorific.
About two weeks ago a reality TV star tweeted that she had lost 6 pounds in her first week on this diet. Obviously I followed the http://www.dietchef.co.uk
I admit I was alarmed when the food arrived. As it is packaged like space food. However, everything I have eaten so far has tasted really nice.
They provide you with all your meals, breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. All you have to do is add vegetables, (or a small amount of rice or pasta).
The portions are calorie counted for you to 1200 per day. I would say that is about half the calories I usually consume in one day.

Needless to say I have noticed a weight loss already.
It is recommended that a healthy weight for me is between 12 stone 6 pounds (79.03 kg) and 9 stone 13 pounds (63.23 kg).
When I started this diet (2 weeks ago) I weighed 11st 11lbs (74.8 kg). As of today I weigh 11st 2lbs (70.8 kg)
I intended to do this diet for two months but perhaps one month will be enough to reach my goal weight of 10st 7lbs. I will keep you posted.

Nic starts this diet next week so I am sure she will have experiences to share.Diet Chef cost me £190 per month. I now have a £10 discount code for anyone else who is interested in joining me. Add MYDEAFBO into the code box at time of payment.
It did seem like a huge amount in a lump sum but when I thought about how much money I spend on food, wine, takeaways per month it was easily as much.
Diet chef works out to £5.43 per day. I still have to food shop for the kids but I buy only what they eat and nothing for myself apart from vegetables to accompany my food. Overall, I am finding this diet successful and a doddle. I am also eating way more that my 5 a day so I feel healthier.
